Jeff Cortez

TITLE: Defensive Coordinator

Jeff Cortez is the Defensive Coordinator for the Govs. He is also in charge of strength and conditioning. Cortez was hired in the spring of 2022. Before becoming William Blount’s defensive signal-caller, he was the Head Coach at Lenoir City. Cortez, a California native, also had previous head coaching stops in his home state at Village Christian (2007-10), Lancaster (2003-06) and Paraclete (2000-02) before moving to Tennessee. His overall record as a Head Coach is 104-107. Cortez has also coached soccer, baseball, track & field, and tennis at previous stops.

In 2024, Jeff joined coach Windle’s staff as an assistant basketball coach.

Jeff is married to his wife, Shenna. They have 4 children: Jacob, Brett, Gabby, and Kaleigh. Jeff’s son, Brett, played QB for the Governors and was All-Region his junior and senior year (2022 and 2023). Coach Cortez teaches PE at William Blount.
