Philip Shadowens was hired in March of 2015 to lead the Governors. Shadowens’s impressive resume rivals some of the top coaches in the state of Tennessee. He was the Head Coach at Smyrna High School (his alma mater) for fourteen years and the Head Coach at Blackman High School for six years. Coach Shadowens also coached at Middle Tennessee Christian School for one season.
At Smyrna, Coach Shadowens won two state championships in back-to-back seasons. He went 113-56 at Smyrna and had several winning seasons. While at Smyrna, Shadowens coached twelve teams to the postseason, including eight consecutive teams from 2000 to 2007. Prior to Shadowens’s arrival, Smyrna had only made the playoffs twice in school history.
During his tenure at Blackman, he helped guide the Blaze to six playoff appearances. In 2013, the Blaze made a deep playoff run before losing to eventual-state-champion Maryville in the state semifinals. Coach Shadowens compiled a 59-17 (78%) record while at Blackman. Coach Shadowens has coached multiple successful Division I-FBS players as a Head Coach.
Since his arrival at William Blount, Shadowens has focused on improving the football program by developing a positive culture that the fans, players, and student body are all proud of. In 2019, William Blount made the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
Philip is married to his wife, Laura. They have 2 daughters: Katie and Sydney. Coach Shad resigned in January 2022.
